Underoath – DTGL 20th Anniversary

Client:

Underoath

Project:

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Define the Great Line, Underoath teamed up with Greater Public Studio to create a 10 × 25-foot mural and a run of 150 one-of-one t-shirts. Using original drawings and handwritten notes from Spencer Chamberlain’s sketchbooks, journals, and lyric sheets, GPS worked with the band hands-on to print, paint, and collage the artwork.

Underoath – DTGL 20th Anniversary

Once the mural and t-shirts were exhibited and sold at a pop-up event in Tampa for the album’s anniversary release, the mural was cut into 350 individual sections and included in the limited edition album box.

A large-scale work hand-made by Underoath and the GPS team

We worked with the band in our studio to combine a multitude of painting and printing processes to bring their vision to life. Together, using a collection of hand-written lyrics and drawings created by Spencer Chamberlain, everyone put in work to create the densely-layered artwork.

The final artwork includes details large and small, inviting fans to find hidden lyrics and references to the band and album throughout the mural.

Working together with Underoath

We had an excellent time working together with the band members on this project. Everyone brought their own touch to the mural, working on collaging, printing, building up dense layers, and hand-painting messages.

Using elements from the artwork, we screenprinted a limited edition run of t-shirts exclusively for the launch party. Each of the 150 t-shirts is unique, featuring many combinations of graphics and lyrics from the mural on both the fronts and backs.

Segments of the work for the fans

After the event concluded, we cut the artwork into 350 individual segments for the limited edition album release. This way, fans of Underoath can have a one-of-a-kind physical piece of the media created by the band members.

Each panel is unique. Fans who purchased the limited edition release of the vinyl album received their own piece of the collaborative art, hand-made by the band and the GPS team.

Each panel is numbered and included as a unique keepsake for the limited edition album release.
